Wonder Boy in Monster Land (Japan New Version, MC-8123, 317-0043), also known as Wonder Boy: Monster Land in arcades, is a platforming action role-playing game. Westone Bit Entertainment created the game, which Sega released in Japan in 1987 and for the Master System in 1988, with various more console and home computer ports following. The game is a sequel to the Wonder Boy game from 1986, and it takes place 11 years after the previous game's events. After more than a decade of peace in Wonder Land following Tom-victory Tom's over the villainous king, who was later given the title "Wonder Boy," a fire-breathing dragon known as the MEKA dragon came, conquering Wonder Land and renaming it "Monster Land." The people, helpless in the face of the monsters and the dragon MEKA, enlisted the help of Wonder Boy, now a teenager, to slay the creatures and defeat the dragon MEKA. Wonder Boy is controlled by the player throughout twelve linear stages as he travels through Monster Land in search of and defeating the dragon MEKA. Players earn gold by fighting enemies and using it to purchase weapons, armor, shoes, spells, and other stuff to aid them in their quest.
