World Stadium (Japan)

The World Stadium in Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan, opened in March 1998 as a multi-purpose stadium. The Yokohama F. Marinos of the J1 League call it home.
Until the New National Stadium in Tokyo opened in November, Yokohama International Stadium had the biggest capacity of any stadium in Japan for 21 years, with a total capacity of 75,000. During the 2002 FIFA World Cup, it hosted three group stage matches and the final between Germany and Brazil on June 30, 2002. The stadium is one of three that will host the Summer Olympics in 2020. This stadium was also chosen as one of the venues for the 2019 Rugby World Cup, and it hosted the tournament's final match. After Japan declared that the projected new National Stadium would not be built on time, World Rugby made the decision.
