X Multiply (World, M81)

X Multiply X Multiply (World, M81) is an Irem side-scrolling shooter in the vein of their earlier R-Type game. The game was released on PlayStation and Sega Saturn in 1998 as a single-disc double-disc with Image Fight. The game was released in 2019 as part of Hamster Corporation's Arcade Archives series on PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch, marking the first official distribution outside of Japan.
The game is a side-scrolling game similar to R-Type, with the exception of a short vertical scrolling portion at the end of the sixth level. The main power-up, however, is in the shape of two flexible tentacles, rather than a Force pod. The tentacles are impervious to opposing attacks and can be strategically positioned by the X-002. Konami's Xexex is based on the weapon's fusion with the R-Force Type's system. The ship "RX-12 Cross The Rubicon" in the PlayStation 2 game R-Type Final uses the "Flexible Force," an XMultiply-based Force with virtually identical attacks.
