Ballblazer (Europe)
Ballblazer (Europe) is a futuristic sports game originally developed by Lucasfilm Games and released for various platforms in the mid-1980s.
How to play
1. Basic Concept:
- It's a one-on-one sports game, similar to soccer or basketball, played with hovering vehicles called "Rotofoils"
2. Objective:
- Score more points than your opponent by shooting the ball (called a "Plasmorb") into the goal
3. Controls:
- Move forward/backward: Push joystick forward/backward
- Turn left/right: Move joystick left/right
- Boost: Press fire button
- Shoot/Steal: Release fire button
4. Gameplay:
- The game is played on a checkered field that scrolls in first-person view
- Each match lasts for a set amount of time (usually 2-3 minutes)
5. Scoring:
- Points are awarded based on distance from the goal when shooting
- The further away you are, the more points you get (typically 1-3 points)
6. Special Mechanics:
- "Forcefield": When you have the ball, a force field protects you from the opponent
- "Catch-Up" feature: The losing player's Rotofoil becomes faster to balance the game
7. Strategy:
- Use boost strategically to outmaneuver your opponent
- Try to shoot from far away for more points
- When defending, try to position yourself between the opponent and the goal
8. Modes:
- Player vs. Computer
- Player vs. Player (if supported in the European version)
9. Difficulty:
- The game often increases in difficulty as you play, with the AI becoming more challenging
10. Tips:
- Practice maneuvering your Rotofoil effectively
- Learn to judge distances for optimal scoring
- Use the edges of the field to your advantage when defending
Ballblazer is known for its fast-paced gameplay and unique split-screen presentation. The European version might have some slight differences from other regional releases, but the core gameplay remains the same.
