Excitebike (Europe)
In the side-scroller racing game Excitebike, the player controls a motocross racer. Selection A, a solo race run, and Selection B, a match against AI opponents, are the two game options. To get to the Excitebike championship race, the player must place third or higher in a preliminary race. The B button enables a turbo boost that increases the bike's speed but can overheat the engine if used for an extended amount of time, necessitating an immobility cooldown period. The A button accelerates the bike. By running over the course's arrows, the engine's temperature can be reset. The directional pad can be used by the player to change lanes and to adjust the racer's balance in midair after a leap. A racer can keep moving forward if they fall properly on both wheels, but if they land unevenly, they will lose speed or crash. The Famicom Data Recorder tape drive, which was unavailable outside of Japan, may be used to save and load custom tracks built in Design Mode utilizing 19 different types of obstacles.
