Road Fighter (Japan)

There are four courses in the first two levels Road Fighter (Japan), which go from grassy plains to mountains, seashores, over-water bridges, and wooded areas. There were six stages in the arcade version. The B button speeds the player's red Chevrolet Corvette to about 224 km/h, while the A button raises the speed to 400. The player can acquire additional gasoline points by touching unique multicolored cars. The player starts with a finite number of fuel points, or roughly 100 seconds. The player's car will spin out and may crash into the side barriers, losing five to six fuel points, if they collide with any other cars or slip on the sporadically appearing patches of oil. There are six different kinds of opponents in the NES and Famicom versions: three blue, one truck, one yellow and red, and three blue. There are lots of yellow cars that move in a straight line. Although they are less common, red cars will occasionally swerve into the player's path by changing lanes. The primary "enemies" in the game are blue cars, which differ in how they shift lanes and try to hit the player. Although trucks travel straight forward, hitting one quickly destroys the player's vehicle. If the player completes the level without crashing, Konami Man will make an appearance, flying by the side of the road (not present on course two in NES and Famicom versions).
