Super Double Dragon (USA)

In line with earlier games in the series, the player controls Billy and Jimmy, two martial artists, as they battle the Shadow Warriors gang Super Double Dragon (USA). The goal is to advance through each level and vanquish every adversary—including the monster. There are seven stages in the game: an airport, a casino, a martial arts dojo, a fight on top of a moving truck, a city slum, a forest, and the boss's stronghold.

The player now has a guard button in addition to the punch, kick, and jump buttons for deflecting blows. In addition to being able to block an enemy's blow with a well-timed guard button press, the player's character can also use it to take out adversaries by grabbing their arms, rendering them open to further strikes. Only Steve, Jackson, Roper, Williams, and the Chin brothers can be grabbed by the arm. Under the life gauge, there is a "Dragon Power" gauge that the player can fill by depressing the L or R buttons. The player can launch flying hurricane kicks and other special attacks, the effects of which depend on how much power they have accumulated, while the gauge is filling up. The player's normal attacks will temporarily receive more power if the power gauge is full all the way.

Super Double Dragon is among the few titles in the series where Billy and Jimmy Lee's protagonists are distinct from one another, both in terms of their fighting prowess and their in-game character looks (the brothers are assigned distinct hairstyles). Specifically, the two characters' fundamental punches change (as does Jimmy's roundhouse kick in Return of Double Dragon).
