Tesserae (USA, Europe)
Based on Kent Brewster's DOS game Stained Glass, Nicholas Schlott created Tesserae, which was released in 1990 by Inline Design for the Macintosh. The game, which was created by Eurocom and published by GameTek for the Game Boy and Game Gear, was also made available.
When playing Tesserae, colored tiles are flipped over other tiles to remove them from the board. Dropping a tile adds colors, making it more challenging to remove the tile, but flipping over tiles subtracts the color of the tile that was jumped. Purple, green, and orange secondary tiles are produced by combining the red, blue, and yellow basic tiles. When all three major tiles are combined, a gray tile results. Simple primary tiles are placed on a rectangle board to begin the game. The inclusion of supplementary cells and more intricate board shapes both make things harder.
