Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 (USA)
Since Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 (USA), two new gameplay modes have been added: a 2-on-2 mode that was similar to an Endurance match but had as many as three human players on both sides, and an eight-player Tournament mode. An extra Master difficulty exists. After completing the main game or the eight-player Tournament, Shao Kahn's Lost Treasures are selectable prizes that lead to bonus combat or cutscenes.
Some characters got new moves and some changed to balance the game. Extra and less damaging combos were granted to some characters. Chain combinations can be initiated with a vertical or angled jump punch or vertical jump kick, creating numerous combo options. Only normal uppercuts drive opponents up in multi-layered stages, not combos that knock them out.
Game AI was upgraded for computer-controlled opponents. With the revisions, three new flaws were introduced: when backflipping away from an opponent, if the player jump kicks, the AI character will always throw a projectile, leaving the computer character vulnerable to some attacks and a devastating combo. If the player goes back-and-forth within a specified range of the AI character, the opponent will mimic the player's motions throughout round without attacking. If the computer opponent is trapped, the player can repeatedly punch without the AI character stumbling, winning easily.
