Diablo

The town of Tristram, the de facto capital of the Kingdom of Khanduras in the Sanctuary planet, serves as the setting for Diablo. The actual conflict takes place below the town in a labyrinth of caverns, tombs, and dungeons that extend all the way to hell.

The protagonist of Diablo is the Lord of Terror, one of the seven "Demons" and the demon lord who once ruled the Underworld. The player character embarks on a series of quests to free Tristram from demons who were born in Hell, making their way through twelve levels of the dungeon to Hell itself (the final four levels are the same).
Three character classes are available in Diablo, and three more are available in the Hellfire expansion. A player can take on the role of a warrior, rogue (an archer), or mage. Each class has a unique place in the game's history, and all three classes make appearances in the sequel as non-player characters. The general skills and spellcasting abilities shared by the three classes are identical. With the exception of Trap Dispelling, each of them has a class-specific talent (Item Repair, Trap Clearing, and Staff Reload, respectively) that has several advantages as well as drawbacks.
