Wolfchild

Wolfchild is a 16-bit treasure I only recently discovered. Genesis/Mega Drive version is better than others.

Wolfchild began as an Amiga game by the creators of Switchblade 1 and 2. The game is a platformer with human, robotic, and monster foes throughout five stages.

Saul, son of biotechnology researcher Kal Morrow, is kidnapped by the Chimera Corporation. Saul chooses to be a nasty enough person to save his dad, so he turns himself into a Wolfchild.

This game benefits from projectile attacks. Grabbing orbs strengthens shots. You can become a super-strong wolf man with the correct orb. When hit hard, you lose wolf power quickly. Fast and lethal gameplay with spikes and pits with no remorse. This game is deadly.

Wolfchild's graphics are amazing, including 16-bit robot gear animations. The Genesis/Mega Drive version has better sound effects and music, with a punchier bass line and bobbing tracks. The Sega CD and Amiga versions contain cutscenes (with horrible voice acting and stiff animation), however the SNES and Genesis versions don't.

Despite the fantastic soundtrack, the game gets tiring by the third level, but it's solid throughout. Later levels drag and require tweaking. The game is a must-have for Genesis fans.
