In a series of levels, the player must shoot enemies before they fire, avoid shooting innocent bystanders, and reload each time their six-round pistol runs out of ammo. Shooting a bystander or being hit by a gunman kills one in three and is followed by a clip showing the town doctor commenting on the player's actions. 
However, this traditional light-shooter gameplay is interspersed with "showdowns", which are quick draws like the later American Laser Games' Fast Draw Showdown. The arcade version is equipped with a specialized light gun that can detect if the player has properly lowered the gun at the start of a match. Major versions of the game attempted to emulate this mechanic by removing the player's gun at the start of the match and not allowing it to reload until the same time when the arcade version allowed the player to draw the gun.
